Important Attendance Information for MCAP Testing Days

Please note that MCAP testing days are full school days, and all students are expected to remain in school for the entire day.

Absences during 3rd and 4th periods will not be excused due to early dismissal unless the school receives verifiable, lawful documentation (such as a medical or court document). Parent notes or emails will not be accepted as valid documentation.

All required documentation must be submitted to the main office on the following school day.

Students who leave school without a scheduled, verifiable appointment will be marked unexcused. This may negatively impact their attendance rate and could result in ineligibility to attend Revel.

We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring students remain in school for the full day and approach this important assessment with the seriousness it deserves.

Regards,
Western High School Leadership Team

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Earlier today around 1:15 PM, school staff received a report that a student may have made a concerning statement. As a precaution, we briefly placed the school in lockdown while staff located the student.

The situation was resolved very quickly—lasting less than one minute. The student was found promptly, and Baltimore City School Police along with our mental health team assessed the situation. At this time, there is no credible or ongoing threat to our school community.

The lockdown has been lifted, and the school day has continued as normal. All students and staff are safe.

We appreciate our students for speaking up and our staff for responding quickly to ensure everyone’s safety. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at (410) 396-7040.

Sincerely,
Western High School Leadership Team

Dear Western Families, As the weather becomes warmer, I want to take a moment to reaffirm our expectations regarding the Baltimore City Public Schools uniform policy. At Western High School, our uniform is an important part of maintaining a focused, respectful, and safe learning environment. We expect all students to consistently adhere to the school uniform policy each day, regardless of seasonal changes. As temperatures rise, we are noticing an increase in attire that does not align with policy. Please be reminded of the following expectations: Students must wear approved school uniform tops and bottoms at all times Clothing should be appropriate in length, fit, and coverage Midriffs, tank tops, and non-uniform items are not permitted Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be fingertip length or longer Headgear must follow school guidelines unless for approved purposes While we understand the desire to dress comfortably in warmer weather, students are still expected to remain in full compliance with the uniform policy. If adjustments are needed, families should ensure students are wearing weather-appropriate options that still meet uniform guidelines (e.g., lighter fabrics within the approved uniform). Please note: Students who are out of uniform will be addressed by our Climate Team and administration Repeated violations may result in progressive consequences aligned with district policy We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. Our goal is to ensure that all students remain focused on learning while representing Western with pride and excellence. As always, if you have questions or need support, please do not hesitate to reach out. Western—Only the Best.

Dear Families,

Greetings, and I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to provide clear and consistent information regarding senior fees and activities, as we recognize that previous communications may have caused confusion.

The Senior Fee is $125. This required fee supports the cost of core senior experiences, including:

Senior Sunrise
Senior Inauguration
Senior Farewell Activities
Senior Banquet
Graduation-related expenses
Other essential senior events

This fee ensures that all students can participate in these important milestone experiences during their senior year.

Please note that any additional senior packages or optional items (if offered) may include extra activities, apparel, or experiences. These are separate from the required $125 graduation fee and are not included unless specifically selected.

We acknowledge that there have been inconsistencies across email communication, Canvas, and previously shared documents, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

To ensure clarity moving forward:

The official and final senior fee is $125
The deadline has been extended to May 1
All future communication regarding senior activities will come directly from the principal’s office

If you have any questions or need assistance with payment, please contact Ms. Rogers at JPalmore@bcps.k12.md.us.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work to ensure a smooth and memorable senior experience for our students.

Sincerely,
Principal Baugh

Seniors 2026
Greetings Western Senior Families,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to clarify recent confusion regarding senior class dues, fees, and packages. The Senior Fee (Graduation Fee) remains $125, as originally communicated. This fee covers major senior events, including Senior Sunrise, Senior Inauguration, Senior Farewell, Senior Banquet, Graduation, and other related activities.
We recognize that there has been some miscommunication, including messages indicating that senior fees were $0, then $100. I want to be clear that the correct and final amount is $125.

Due to this confusion, we are extending the deadline for senior fee payment to May 1st.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding senior fees, please contact Ms. Rogers at JPalmore@bcps.k12.md.us.
Moving forward, all communication regarding senior activities will come directly from Principal Baugh to ensure clarity and consistency.

Additionally, we will meet with the senior class on Wednesday, April 15th, during an advisory to review all senior-related information and expectations.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work to ensure a smooth and memorable end to the school year for our seniors.

Warm regards,

Family Survey 2026
Good evening Western family,

This is a quick reminder that students should place their cell phones in their Yondr pouches each day when they arrive to school.
If a phone is found out of the pouch during a safety check when they arrive, students will be asked to place it in their pouch with staff support. If a student does not have their pouch, the phone will be safely stored in a lock box and can be picked up after 2:50 PM.
We truly appreciate your continued support in helping us create focused, distraction-free learning environments for all students. Thank you for partnering with us!

Class of 2030
Hello Western Family,
I hope this message finds you well.
As the weather warms, we are noticing an increase in the number of students remaining in the building after dismissal. While we appreciate that our students feel a strong sense of connection to Western High School and view it as a safe and welcoming space, we want to take a moment to reinforce expectations to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
In alignment with Baltimore City Public Schools' safety expectations and supervision guidelines, students must be under the direct supervision of a staff member while in the building after school hours. Students are not permitted to remain in the building unsupervised at any time.
Students who plan to stay after school must:
• Be participating in a supervised activity (e.g., coach class, club, athletics, or meeting with a staff member)
• Remain with their assigned staff member for the duration of that activity
• Exit the building promptly once the activity has concluded
This expectation is in place to ensure that all students are safe and appropriately supervised while on school grounds.
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with our students. Staff members, iff you are sponsoring an after-school activity, please ensure that students are actively supervised and that transitions to and from the building are clearly communicated.
Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a safe and structured environment for our Western community.
Warm regards,
Western Administration Team
