We would like to make you aware of a brief power outage at Western High School. The power briefly blinked off and on approximately two times. As a result, we temporarily lost telephone and internet access; however, both services have now been fully restored.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Western High School Administrative Team

Hello Western Family, Baltimore City Public Schools will be virtual tomorrow, Thursday January 29, 2026. Please see below for Western’s virtual learning plan. Virtual Learning Platform and Schedule: TOMORROW IS AN A DAY Western’s Virtual Learning Plan and Canvas will be our primary virtual learning platform. Students will find class announcements, schedules, assignments, and Zoom links in Canvas. Teachers will post Zoom links in the WHS Virtual Learning Landing Page (SY25–26). Families and students can reference the Virtual Learning instructional schedule that the school will follow on virtual learning days (shared by the school and below). Administrators and school counselors will ensure students are connected to their access Zoom links and materials. Virtual Classroom Learning Environment During virtual learning, teachers will ensure: Clear virtual class norms are established and communicated. Instructional materials are accessible (texts, references, assignments, and resources). Students know exactly how to access and submit their work. Attendance Expectations Teachers will take attendance daily using Infinite Campus. If a student is absent due to no computer or no internet access, the student should be coded as “BCPSS Emergency” for that day. Please note: This code can only be entered by the attendance team. Teachers will notify the attendance team by emailing Ms. Mackel. Grading Policy In alignment with MSDE requirements, virtual learning days will not negatively impact a student’s grade. If a student is absent or has difficulty with connectivity and participation, Western will provide meaningful opportunities to make up work outside of the virtual learning day. Supports for Differentiated Learners All educational services will continue for students with an IEP, 504 Plan, or ELD services. Staff will follow the virtual accommodations listed in each student’s plan. Staff Roles and Responsibilities All staff will follow Baltimore City’s Public Schools Virtual Learning Days Staff Roles and Responsibilities document, which outlines expectations for staff and students to ensure a smooth and supportive virtual learning day. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us ensure learning continues—safely and smoothly—during winter weather. WHS
