During the CEO search, families, students, staff, and community members shared their perspectives on the needs of City Schools. This feedback helped shape four focus areas that will guide the Board’s work moving forward.
The shift from seven strategic priorities to four focus areas reflects the Board’s effort to establish a clear direction informed by community input. The four focus areas replace the former priorities and will serve as the Board’s goals and inform the district’s next strategic plan.
Four Focus Areas
Students with Diverse Learning Needs
Improve services and outcomes for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
School Portfolio Strategy
Evaluate and revise the School Portfolio Strategy to ensure meaningful, high-quality programs and schools that are the preferred choice for Baltimore students and families.
School Climate and Student Well-being
Cultivate school environments that are safe, promote belonging and nurture the whole child.
More High-Performing Schools
Increase the number of Baltimore schools that consistently perform at a high level and deliver high-quality academic outcomes.
What this means
Moving forward, staff preparing presentations for the Board should use the four focus areas slide in place of the former seven strategic priorities.
When developing a Board presentation:
Identify the focus area or areas most relevant to the presentation.
Use the updated Board presentation materials and reference documents, available on our Communications Template webpage.
Ensure the language used across departments aligns with the Board’s new direction.
Share Your Feedback
The Board invites staff and the broader City Schools community to review the four focus areas and share feedback through the community survey.
