Future-ready skills are getting a boost around the city! Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) is launching the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (The Award) at seven high schools.
The Award is a global youth development program that is expanding to the Academy for College and Career Exploration, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Carver Vocational-Technical High School, Forest Park High School, Frederick Douglass High School, and Western High School.
Western hosted His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh as part of his U.S. trip focused on partnerships and opportunities for young people.
“Baltimore City Public Schools is committed to opening doors for our students and connecting them with experiences that help them discover their strengths, challenge themselves and grow as leaders,” said City Schools CEO Dr. Jermaine Dawson. “The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award brings a globally recognized opportunity directly to our students, and we are honored to welcome His Royal Highness to Baltimore as this exciting work begins across seven of our high schools.”

Founded in 1956, The Award challenges students to progress through bronze, silver, and gold levels while pursuing personal goals beyond the traditional classroom in four core areas: Voluntary Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey. The experience is designed to foster confidence, resilience, leadership, and a sense of purpose and passion.
Students at the seven schools will join a network of millions of participants in more than 120 countries and territories.
