For the past decade, Dr. Sonja Brookins Santelises has led Baltimore City Public Schools with extraordinary vision, compassion, and an unshakable belief in the limitless potential of every student.
Dr. Santelises has transformed City Schools through sustained academic progress, expanded opportunities for students, strengthened arts, athletics, and literacy programs, and secured historic investments in school infrastructure. Her vision also helped shape the Blueprint for Maryland's Future, extending innovations first championed in Baltimore to students across the state.
As she concludes her service as CEO, Dr. Santelises reflects upon a decade of progress. She expresses her gratitude to the students, families, educators, staff, partners, and community who made this work possible, and leaves us with one final challenge: to continue believing in Baltimore's young people and to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
