What’s Changing?
New early credit requirement in ELA or Math
To be promoted from 9th to 10th grade, students must still earn a total of 5 credits, including 2 core credits. Now, at least one of those core credits must be in English Language Arts (ELA) or Mathematics. The remaining three credits can be earned through electives or other credit-bearing courses.
More math course options
Students must still complete Algebra I and Geometry, but Algebra II is no longer required to progress from 11th to 12th grade. Instead, students can choose from a range of math courses, such as:
Pre-Calculus or Calculus
Probability & Statistics
Personal Finance**
Data Science**
Applied Math **
**Note: Some courses may not be available at the start of the 2025-26 school year, but will be added in the future
More flexibility in science requirements
You are no longer limited to taking Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to graduate.
Instead, you may select from available courses so that you earn:
1 credit in Physical Science
1 credit in Life Science aligned to the state assessment for high school science
1 credit in Earth/Space Science, or a course that covers Earth/space topics
