Commodore John Rodgers robotics team

The robotics team from Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School has made history as the first-ever Baltimore City Public Schools team to win a judged award at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship, held May 12–14 in Dallas, Texas.

Team members Musawir (Grade 5), Brisyn (Grade 5), Seamus (Grade 4), and James (Grade 5) earned the prestigious Build Award, which recognizes excellence in robot construction and engineering documentation.

Coached by Jamie Cassermere, Mike Rennard, and Ben Tidwell, the team competed over three days against 400 of the top elementary teams from more than 109 countries to achieve this landmark victory for City Schools.

Founded in 2019 by Rennard, Commodore’s robotics program has built a strong track record, earning district and state championships in robot skills, teamwork driving, and overall excellence.
