School year 2025-2026 hiring update

Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) invites certified educators worldwide to apply for the J-1 Visa Cultural Exchange Visitor Program. Our program is designed to foster intercultural exchange and celebrate the diverse backgrounds that enrich our communities. Eligible educators participating in the J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program must obtain a teaching license from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The license is valid for two years and can be renewed or renewed for five years, the maximum duration of the exchange program. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact in a vibrant urban environment.

The 2026-2027 school year applications will open in the Winter of 2025.

What you will need to apply:

  1. Resume outlining the educational experience of at least 3 years as a classroom teacher

  2. Transcripts

  3. Foreign Credential Evaluation

  4. VOE for each school indicating the grade level(s) and subjects taught.

  5. Criminal Background Clearance check

  6. Copy of Passport or Driver's License or official ID with photo

Foreign credential evaluations

The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) or TEC for short, is our recommended international transcript evaluation service. They have created a custom application for City Schools that will make sure you select the right kind of evaluation at a discounted rate. You can access their application here: TEC Application - Baltimore City Public Schools.

Please note that you are not required to use TEC—any of the several MSDE Approved Foreign Transcript Evaluation Agencies will do.
