Science Class

There are six Board Committees that meet regularly to address issues in specific areas.

Audit Committee

  • Ensure that internal and external audit findings and recommendations are addressed adequately and in a timely manner

    Audit issues that may have a significant impact on City Schools’ activities are monitored

  • Ensure that there is no interference in determining the scope, performing work, and communicating the results of internal audits

  • Ensure that open communication exists between internal audit management, external auditors, and City Schools management to achieve established objectives

Meeting Schedule: Meet quarterly (once every three months) in a closed session.

Operations Committee

  • Ensure that effective management systems exist that maximize available resources to support increased student achievement 

  • Ensure that school environments are safe, caring, and physically conducive for learning 

  • Ensure that transformational leadership exists at all levels of the organization 

Meeting Schedule: The third Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Policy Committee

  • Develop, review, and revise various board policies governing Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) to support teaching and learning excellence for every student in every classroom system-wide and meet state and federal education regulations. 

  • Review existing Board policies regularly to ensure their alignment with City Schools' vision and mission. 

  • Monitor the Board policy-making process to ensure that is open, accessible and transparent, as well as responsive, to the educational needs of our students. 

  • Recommend revisions to existing Board policies, when necessary, to sustain the strategic organizational direction and goals of City Schools. 

  • Sponsor public forums for the school community to discuss recommendations for revisions to existing Board policies.  

Meeting Schedule: The third Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Safety and Wholeness Committee

  • Engage with district personnel and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive roadmap that will enhance safety standards and services for students and staff 

  • Leverage the guidance and resources from federal, state, and local levels to incorporate cultural, restorative, and healing-centered approaches within student wholeness initiatives. 

Meeting Schedule: The third Thursday of each month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Strategic Planning Committee

  • Ensure that there is an annual review of Board priorities and metrics 

  • Ensure that transparent public presentations take place regarding performance with respect to Board priorities 

  • Ensure that Board priorities and metrics are linked to the evaluation of the CEO

Meeting Schedule: Meet quarterly (once every three months) in a closed session.

Teaching and Learning Committee

  • Ensure that quality curricula and instruction provide rigor, engage students, raise the bar, and deliver targeted interventions to increase learning. 

  • Ensure that students are taught by highly qualified teachers who use instructional strategies that sustain a culture of excellence and lead to academic success. 

Meeting Schedule: The first Tuesday of each month from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
