Greetings Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School
Community,
We are writing to provide an update on the recent gas leaks that occurred on October 4th, October 21st and October 23rd.
Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (BGE) responded promptly on each occasion, BGE serviced the site and shut off the gas line associated with the leaks. The district is committed to ensuring the safety of the kitchen area for everyone, and our Facilities and Food & Nutrition teams are actively working to repair the source of the issue.
As an extra precaution, we have placed air scrubbers in the cafeteria to maintain air quality. Please note that meal service has continued uninterrupted, and students received hot meals as usual. The contractors are working on the oven associated with the identified problem and Food & Nutrition staff will use the unimpacted ovens. As such, hot meals will be provided and if any issues arise, the cafeteria team has a contingency plan to serve back-up meals from our supply network.
The well-being of our students and staff is our top priority, and we will always take the necessary steps to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment. Thank you for your understanding and support during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 410-396-
6271.
Sincerely,
Joseph Eldridge
Principal
Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School
