Greetings Mustang Family, Friends and Stakeholders,
On behalf of the school staff, teachers and paraprofessionals, it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2017-18 school year at Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary School! Last year was a phenomenal year for our school as we made double digit gains in both math and reading. We are eager to continue to build on achieved milestones and renew our commitments to the academic success of our students; however, it will take a combined effort from all of us to ensure their success.
There is an African proverb that states “It takes a village to raise a child”. The proverb speaks to the role of the community in raising a child and reinforces the importance of the roles of adults in a child’s life. This school year, we want to focus on the significance of our individual roles as parents, guardians, teachers, administrators and community stakeholders. How can we effectively combine these roles to create the “village” that our students need and deserve? How can we collectively work together to realize and achieve academic success for our students? The answer to these questions lie within the strength of our “village” and some of the initiatives that our staff has tirelessly worked on throughout the summer including:
· Increasing the voice of parents and guardians by including grade level representation on the School Family Council
· Deepening relationships with current partners to have a stronger collective impact
· Enhancing academic and enrichment opportunities for high performing students
· Nurturing the whole child, socially, emotionally, and, academically
As the academic arena continues to evolve, it is evident, now, more than ever, that we need to collectively work together to ensure that all of our children meet their highest potential, in school and in the community. We must reinforce a positive and safe culture and climate, refinement of instructional practices to meet the individual needs of all learners, and a renewed commitment to stakeholder participation, communication and accountability.
I encourage each of you to take the time to evaluate your role in our “village”. Visit our school website and drop in to find out about our academic and community initiatives. Be on the lookout for quarterly updates in the mail. I know that we have a great community and team ready to support, encourage and motivate our students to achieving and accomplishing their academic goals. I look forward to working with all of you, the CRES village, in making this a memorable and successful school year.
