Good afternoon Rockets, I hope you are enjoying your Saturday.
This week will be our Black History Month Spirit Week. I apologize for not sending home a flyer. We are asking students to dress in a certain way each day. If students decide not to participate then they should be in full uniform. Please remember no holes in jeans, no crop tops, ripped clothing, no low cut shirts, and no face coverings.
To kick off the week, Monday we are wearing a combination of Red, Black and Green.
Red represents the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation; Black for the people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag;
Green for the abundant and vibrant natural wealth of Africa, the Motherland.
Tuesday we will represent an HBCU. You may wear spirit wear such as shirts, hats, etc. or you may wear the colors of an HBCU. For example Coppin State University is an HBCU in Baltimore City and their colors are Navy Blue, Yellow and White.
Wednesday ICON Day. Dress like a famous Black icon.
Thursday Blackout day- We will wear all black.
Note Friday is an Asynchronous day. Students will work from home.
Have a great day.

Good evening Rockets,
I hope you have had a great weekend.
Tomorrow kicks off a full week of learning. Please make sure your child is in attendance everyday. Attendance is important to your child's academic success. This week we have 2 trip for students. Students had to fulfill all requirements to be able to participate, attendance being one of them. Students should be in full uniform when going on a field trip.
Students must have a backpack to carry their laptops back and forth to school. Families are responsible for the device that has been assigned to the student. Elementary students may leave their laptops home unless their teachers tell them to bring them. Middle school students should bring theirs everyday. Students should not bring laptops to the cafeteria during lunch time.
This Friiday we will host a Super Bowl party. Students may wear jerseys or colors that represent their favorite team.
Parents please remember that we do not accept food being delivered to students by services such as door dash.
We can't wait to see your child's smiling face at 7:35 a.m. for breakfast and 8:00 a.m. to start the day.
Have a great day

Good Evening KJGA Families,
It is our hope that everyone had a safe and rewarding summer break. We are just a few days away from the start of the 2023-2024 school year. As we prepare for students’ return, it is very important that you help us get ready for the first day of school on August 28, 2023.
• All students are expected to be in uniform starting the first day of school.
• All students are expected to report to school on time and daily with general school supplies (i.e., pencils, pens, paper, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, a few folders, and combination locks for middle school students). Please note these are only general items. Additional school supply lists may be provided by classroom teachers during the first week of school as they deem appropriate. Breakfast starts at 7:35 a.m. and the school day starts at 8:00 a.m.
• All parents/guardians are expected to complete the Annual Student Verification to ensure all student contact information is up-to-date. Most of our communications are via digital platforms. All contact information must be up-to-date to receive updates.
• All parents must be connected to campus portal to receive daily updates on attendance and grades. https://www.baltimorecityschools.org/campus-portal
• All students and families will work collaboratively with school staff to ensure we all do our part to Be the Change and Change the Narrative!
Parents/guardians can go onto campus portal to see what class section their child has been assigned. Due to the national teacher shortage, many of our teachers were just recently hired. As a result, every teacher’s name may not be posted to the site as of yet. In the interim, you may see my name (Alzata Spencer) as a place holder until the new teacher’s credentials are updated. For now, knowing your child’s class section helps them to determine who to look for on the first day of school.
A separate communication will be forthcoming regarding entry/exit doors by grade levels which is needed for the first day of school. All families are invited to join us for a our annual Take a Peek at Your Seat event on Friday, August 25, 2023 at from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to ensue your child knows their assigned classroom and teacher.
Families, we have been very intentional with our hiring practices this summer to ensure our students have what they need to be successful during the upcoming year. We have a lot of transformational work to do and we believe we can achieve each goal with your full support. Looking forward to a great partnership during the 2023-2024 school year.
With Rocket Pride,
Ms. Alzata Spencer, Principal
