During the New Educator Summer Institute (NESI), City Schools welcomed 300 new teachers to our district, including 25 new international teachers. Our new educators come from a variety of backgrounds, including teaching in other states, retail, carpentry, and even archeology.
Throughout the institute, new educators focused heavily on building a learning-focused classroom culture through effective daily procedures, routines, and instructional planning.
Educators dove deep into high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) and learned targeted strategies to support a diverse continuum of learners, including Special Education, Multilingual Learners, Gifted and Advanced Learners, and students requiring 504 accommodations. Additionally, educators completed dedicated training on the Science of Reading and participated in an interactive anti-bias training.
Beyond classroom instruction, this year, the district piloted “Baltimore in Motion,” an immersive bus tour designed to help new teachers explore Baltimore’s history, neighborhoods, and communities while building a deeper understanding of the students and families they will serve.
