We have exciting news: starting this school year, teachers, coaches, and staff at Baltimore City Public Schools will be able to message students directly and securely through ClassDojo Teacher–Student Messaging for grades 9-12 and Teacher-Student-Parent Messaging for grades 6-12.
What students can expect
You’ll receive an invitation at your school email address from hello@classdojo.com starting the week of Aug 24. Check your spam folder if you don’t see it.
Follow the link to set up your ClassDojo student account using your school’s Google or Microsoft login.
Once your account is active, your teacher can start a message thread with you. Please note: You cannot start new message threads. Teachers initiate all conversations.
All messages can be viewed by your parents/guardians and school leadership.
What parents and guardians can expect
You’ll receive a notification when your child is first invited to set up their student account.
You can view your child’s messages at any time by navigating to the Kids tab and tapping "Chats."
For Teacher-Student Messaging, you will have visibility into all conversations between teachers and your child.
For Teacher-Student-Parent Messaging, you will be able to message your child and their teacher together. This makes it easy to address time-sensitive logistics or academic needs as a family.
Getting started for teachers
Enable messaging for each class: From any class go to Options > Edit Class > Settings and set your preference for "Enable teacher-student chats." Repeat these steps for every class.
Invite students: Go to Options > Edit Class > Students and click “Connect all” or invite individually. Students will get an email at their school address.
Start a thread: From Chats, tap the New Chat icon, select “New group,” and add the student or both the student and parent.
Resources
What if our school doesn’t want to use this yet? School admins have the option to turn off Teacher-Student messaging at their school sites if they prefer in the ClassDojo Admin settings.
