Need funding for a student-led environmental project? Earn between $2,000 and $2,500 by applying for funds through the Green, Healthy, Smart Challenge (GHSC). GHSC is a Baltimore City Public Schools and Baltimore Office of Sustainability program providing funds for student-led environmental sustainability and greening initiatives. Through the GHSC, students have an opportunity to become leaders in sustainability, make Baltimore’s school communities environmentally friendly, and help schools certify with the Maryland Green School Program.
Qualifying projects must fit into one or more of the following categories:
Water Conservation and Pollution Prevention
Energy Conservation
Solid Waste Reduction
Habitat Restoration
Opportunities for Nature Exploration
Responsible Transportation
Healthy Indoor Environments
Citizen/Community/Participatory Science
Regarding funding, all Baltimore City Public Schools may apply for up to $2,000. Schools certified as Maryland Green Schools or located in the South Baltimore Gateway Area may apply for up to $2,500.
