City Schools has selected Corebridge Financial as the single provider for its 403(b) and 457(b) supplemental retirement plans. The goal is to improve employee and retiree access to lower-cost investment options and reduce overlapping investment strategies.

By choosing CoreBridge Financial as your supplemental provider, you will experience:

  • Significantly reduced fees: Many employees may see fees reduced by more than 90%, allowing you to keep more of your investment returns over time.

  • No surrender fees: Corebridge will cover the costs associated with transferring funds, making it easier and more affordable to take advantage of these improvements.

  • Expanded investment options: A broader range of high-quality choices to better meet your individual goals.

  • Stronger, more personalized support: Advisors are salaried—not commission-based—so guidance is centered on your needs.

  • Simpler, more streamlined experience: Moving to a single provider means clearer communication and easier account management.

As we prepare to transition our Supplemental 403(b) and 457(b) Retirement Plans to Corebridge, effective October 1, 2026, City Schools would like to remind all employees participating in the Baltimore City Employee Retirement System (BCERS), a.k.a. "city" retirement, that the BCERS' 401(a) and 457(b) Retirement Savings Plan (RSP), which is serviced and accessed by Nationwide, is not transitioning to Corebridge

Participation in BCERS for qualifying employees is mandatory and not subject to supplemental retirement.  Participants in BCERS may also choose to participate in the Supplemental 403(b) and 457(b) Retirement Plans with Corebridge in addition. All plan details for the Retirement Savings Plan will remain unchanged.

Learn more about the Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) > See page 170.

Please note: You may hear from your current supplemental provider before or after the transition to CoreBridge. It’s important to remember that they have a vested interest in retaining your business. While you are free to keep your past contributions with your current plan, we encourage you to review all information carefully and take advantage of the support and resources that will be available through City Schools and Corebridge. This offering reflects extensive research and collaboration, and we are confident that its benefits outweigh any previous plans in the City Schools supplemental retirement savings program.
