Five employees talking at a table

To support safe, respectful, equitable, and legally compliant schools and workplaces, Baltimore City Public Schools is launching the required 2026–2027 Compliance Training series for all employees. Training will launch the week of August 10 for 12-month employees and the week of August 17 for 10-month employees.

The series helps ensure employees are informed of and aligned with the laws, policies, procedures, and professional expectations that protect students and employees and support a positive learning and working environment.

All employees must complete their assigned training requirements by Friday, October 16, 2026.

WHAT RETURNING EMPLOYEES NEED TO KNOW

This school year, returning employees will have a new test-out option for five of the six required topics:

  • Complete the full Cyber Awareness module first. Cyber Awareness does not include a test-out option.

  • For each of the remaining five topics, choose either the full module or a brief review summary followed by a test-out assessment. Passing scores for test-out varies by module: 6 of 7 correct for Data Privacy and Data Security, Navigating the Employee Handbook, and Workplace Safety; 9 of 10 correct for Child Welfare and Fair Practices.

  • Employees who do not meet the passing score will be automatically directed to complete the full module.

WHAT NEW EMPLOYEES NEED TO KNOW

Newly hired employees must complete all six full training modules. The test-out option is available only to eligible returning employees.

KEY DETAILS
  • Access. Employees will receive a launch email with instructions and direct links to the appropriate training landing page and Canvas/KickUp course.

  • Work time. Employees should complete the required training during regular, compensated work hours. Employees should not be expected to complete mandatory compliance training outside their compensated work hours.

  • Time required. Completion time will vary depending on whether eligible employees use the test-out assessments or complete the full modules. Employees who complete all six full modules should plan for approximately 180 to 240 minutes total.

  • Pre-service week. For school-based employees, the SY26-27 Systemic PL schedule identifies August 18, 19, and 21 as school-based professional learning days that include compliance training. Supervisors remain responsible for ensuring sufficient work time is provided during the broader completion window.

  • Device access. Principals and supervisors should ensure employees have access to an appropriate work device to complete the training, including employees who do not routinely have access to a school-issued computer. Employees should not be expected to use personal devices for mandatory compliance training.

  • Worksites with limited devices. Human Capital will coordinate with the appropriate operational and technology teams regarding options for worksites that do not have enough devices available for all affected employees.

  • Browser. Chrome is recommended for the best experience.

  • Sequence. Cyber Awareness must be completed before employees proceed to the remaining modules.

  • Certificate. One certificate is issued after all six requirements are complete and should appear in KickUp “Your Log” within 24 hours.

  • Deadline. All assigned requirements must be completed by Friday, October 16, 2026.

  • Accountability. Supervisors will monitor completion, and employees who do not complete the required training may receive administrative follow-up.

QUESTIONS AND SUPPORT

Please review the launch email and Compliance Training FAQ for access instructions, test-out guidance, dedicated work-time expectations, device-access guidance, and answers to common questions. Employees experiencing technical issues should follow the support directions provided on the training landing page or contact their supervisor for assistance identifying the appropriate support channel.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CENTRAL OFFICE AND SCHOOL LEADERS

Principals, executive directors, directors, managers, and supervisors are responsible for ensuring employees have sufficient compensated work time and access to an appropriate work device to complete all required compliance training. Leaders must plan four hours (240 minutes) for employees to complete compliance training. For school-based employees, the SY26-27 Systemic PL schedule identifies August 18, 19, and 21 as school-based professional learning days that include compliance training. Employees should not be expected to use personal devices or complete mandatory training outside compensated work hours. Leaders should monitor completion using available information and reports. For worksites that do not have enough individual devices available for all affected employees, leverage computer labs available on site or at PDC. Email Human Capital at HumanCapital@bcps.k12.md.us for support to coordinate with the appropriate operational and technology teams regarding options.
