City Schools staff are encouraged to deepen their understanding of bullying prevention by enrolling in An Introduction to Bullying Prevention for Maryland Educators, offered by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). This training also aligns with the responsibility of City Schools staff to report bullying.

Research shows that when educators and central office staff are trained to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying behaviors, schools can see a measurable reduction in bullying incidents and improved student support.

More than 5,400 Maryland educators have completed this course over the past two years. The May 2026 cohort is now open for registration, with enrollment closing Saturday, April 25. Each participant who completes the course will receive 2 hours of Professional Development Points in the content or pedagogy aligned with their educator license.

Participants will receive a welcome email and Canvas access by May 4, modules will open on Monday, May 4, and the course will conclude on Friday, May 29.

This asynchronous, one-hour course is designed to fit into busy schedules while providing practical tools.

  • Module 1 explores the dynamics of bullying, including definitions, types, Maryland laws and data, and the role of educator response.

  • Module 2 focuses on actionable strategies, including how to effectively respond to incidents, support students involved, and build systems that strengthen prevention efforts.

Staff can register online and are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to support safe, inclusive school communities.
