City Schools staff are encouraged to deepen their understanding of bullying prevention by enrolling in An Introduction to Bullying Prevention for Maryland Educators, offered by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Research shows that when educators and central office staff are trained to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying behaviors, schools can see a measurable reduction in bullying incidents and improved student support.
More than 5,200 Maryland educators have completed this course over the past two years. The April 2026 cohort is now open for registration, with enrollment closing Monday, March 30. Each participant who completes the course will receive 2 hours of Professional Development Points in the content or pedagogy aligned with their educator license.
Participants will receive a welcome email and Canvas access on April 3, modules will open on Monday, April 6, and the course will conclude on Thursday, April 30.
This asynchronous, one-hour course is designed to fit into busy schedules while providing practical tools.
Module 1 explores the dynamics of bullying, including definitions, types, Maryland laws and data, and the role of educator response.
Module 2 focuses on actionable strategies, including how to effectively respond to incidents, support students involved, and build systems that strengthen prevention efforts.
Staff can register online and are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to support safe, inclusive school communities.
