The Portrait of a Graduate provides strategic direction and names five core competencies to ensure students develop the interpersonal skills and abilities needed to achieve their dreams.
One of those five competencies is being a creative and innovative thinker. This competency requires that students apply critical and open-minded thinking, informed by evidence, to create new or meaningful ideas to solve complex problems. Click HERE to learn more about the strategic direction.
Our City Scholars exemplify this competency by applying creative and innovative thinking in and out of the classroom. Evidence of this competency can be seen throughout elementary and high school classrooms, in our individual schools, and even on the state and national stages. For example, students Atman Patel and Johns Williams just claimed first and second place, respectively, in the NFTE Capital Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge, a "Shark Tank" style competition for young entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas and win support to bring those ideas to life.
As we move forward, our work throughout the district will align with the Portrait of a Graduate competencies. How has your work contributed to ensuring that our students are creative and innovative thinkers?
