This year’s Love on the Lawn event at Garrett Heights Elementary/Middle School was nothing short of spectacular! Families, friends, and neighbors came together for a day filled with laughter, community spirit, and shared joy. From the moment the gates opened, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement, the smell of delicious food, and the sound of happy chatter across the field.
Thank you to all our student volunteers. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible GHEMS teachers — Ms. Brooks, Ms. Hope-Morgan, Ms. McCoy, Ms. Miller, and Ms. Owens — whose dedication and support helped make this event possible. Your energy and commitment to our students are truly inspiring.
A special thanks goes to the Baltimore City Fire Department Station 42 for bringing their fire trucks, sparking curiosity and perhaps inspiring the next generation of firefighters. We are also grateful to the Pratt Library for championing literacy by providing books for our students to take home and enjoy.
Our community partners truly showed up in style! SmokeBrovas of Baltimore worked the grill to perfection — those burgers and hot dogs were absolutely amazing! Morgan State University also provided volunteers, including the always-enthusiastic Makaya Stubbs from the Acrobatic and Tumbling Team, who continues to be a great supporter of GHEMS. The Friends of GHEMS, who not only offered support but a uniform swap as well just in time for the start of school,
Of course, one of the most unforgettable moments — and perhaps the biggest SPLASH!!! of the day — came when GHEMS Community School Site Specialist, George Strother, took a seat in the dunk tank. What followed was a wave of laughter, cheers, and friendly competition as attendees lined up for their chance to send him into the water.
Love on the Lawn was a true reminder of the power of community and the joy that comes from coming together. Planning is already underway for our Fall Festival in October, and we can’t wait to see everyone again for another unforgettable day!
