Happy New Year! Welcome to 2026 and the start of the second half of our school year. We know that families are our students' first and lifelong teachers. When families and school staff work as a team, students thrive. Here are some ways families can support student success:
1. Build healthy daily routines
Help your child get enough sleep and arrive at school on time every day. Routines around bedtime and homework make a big difference.
2. Connect with your student's teachers
Build relationships with your child's teachers. Reach out to share information about your student, ask questions, and learn ways to support learning at home.
3. Use the Parent Portal
Try setting up phone reminders to check the Parent Portal regularly. Look for grades, attendance, and assignments. For high schoolers, monitor GPA and credits. You can also work with your child’s teacher to complete the Student Learning Plan (SLP) - it outlines goals and specific ways you can help at home.
4. Practice reading and math skills together
Spend 10-15 minutes reading together or practicing math. Check out our Learning Guides for pre-K - 5th grade activities you can try at home.
5. Talk with your student about school and their future
Ask about their day and what they're learning. For middle and high school students, also talk about their interests and explore college and career pathways like CTE, AP, or dual enrollment together.
