ACCE Cell Phone Policy
Baltimore City Public Schools has a clear policy regarding cell phone use at school, emphasizing minimal disruption to the learning environment and safety. Here's a summary of the key points, particularly as they would apply to a school like ACCE (assuming it follows BCPS guidelines):
ACCE Middle School General Policy:
Powered Off and Away: Cell phones are to be powered off and put away as soon as students arrive at school.
Collection by Staff: Staff members are responsible for collecting phones when students enter the classroom during the Advisory/Intervention period
Secure Storage: Cell phones will be collected and placed in a cell phone locker and stored, for example, in "Mr. Jones' office."
Options to Secure Devices-Per City Schools: ACCE will be utilizing the following options.
Device is locked in a specially designed locker; (ACCE High School)
Device is collected centrally upon student’s arrival to school and stored in a centrally accessible locked cabinet or room. (ACCE Middle School)
ACCE Middle School
Upon Arrival (8-8:45 am)
Device is collected in Advisory/Intervention as students enter the classroom.
The teacher makes it part of the students classroom entry routine to have students place their phones in the collection device.
Devices are removed from the classroom by school personnel and non-classroom staff.
Device lockers are taken and stored in the middle school office.
After Advisory (8:45am)
Tardy students arriving after 8:45am will have their phone confiscated by school personnel
Students who receive early dismissal will retrieve their cell phone from Climate Team (CT), admin or Ed. Assoc. (EA)
Dismissal (2:50pm)
Lockers are taken to the last period class by school personnel and students retrieve their cell phone.
ACCE High School
General Policy:
In Classroom Collection: Students power off their phone and place it in a cell phone locker located in the classroom at the beginning of the class period.
Secure Storage: Phones are kept in the cell phone locker until the end of the period when students retrieve their phone.
Staff is responsible for informing school personnel if a student is seen with a cell phone during the instructional period.
Administration and Climate Team will confiscate cell phones if they are seen being used by students during instructional time.
Consequences for Non-Compliance:
First Offense: The phone will be confiscated by school personnel (CT or Admin) and returned at the end of the school day.
Second Offense: The student’s device will be confiscated by school personnel
Returned at the end of the school day.
The student is issued a detention.
Repeat Offender of Policy-the following actions are permitted.
Student issued detention.
The cell phone is confiscated and only returned to the student’s parent/guardian.
A parent conference is held to support the student with following the policy.
The student must turn in the cell phone to school personnel (grade level admin or other designee, in the morning for the duration of the day)
Other Consequences for repeat offenders, before suspension is issued by the administration:
Detention (held on Fridays)
ISS
A zero on any assignment the phone was used to complete.
Loss of school privilege such as:
Use of the school store.
Cannot attend school sponsored events or trips.
