BALTIMORE - Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools), in partnership with MENTOR MD | DC, has completed the initial phase of an effort to ensure all students have access to mentors by the 2027-2028 school year.

When fully completed, the work will result in a scalable, sustainable evaluative infrastructure grounded in evidence-based student mentoring practices. City Schools has expanded the effort into 10 high schools, serving 767 students while engaging 120 prospective student mentoring programs and coaching our three partners in their school integration practices.

Recently, City Schools’ Mentoring and Adult Relationships team, in partnership with MENTOR MD | DC, completed critical steps to develop a comprehensive District Evaluative Student Mentoring Consultancy Protocol Framework. The collaborative effort set benchmarks, reviewed comparable mentoring efforts in peer school districts, and performed a deep-dive analysis to understand best the full suite of City Schools’ student mentoring efforts.

An important milestone included gathering national-level researchers and industry experts who shared invaluable insights, experiences, and best practices tailored specifically to Baltimore City Public Schools’ needs. Their recommendations have played a crucial role in shaping the initiative’s direction and ensuring its alignment with the district’s overarching goals.

This resulting framework aligns with Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation, state education requirements, and APA’s Blueprint for Success along with City Schools goals.
