Edmondson-Westside High School teacher wins $25,000 grand prize
Edmondson-Westside High School teacher Harry Preston is the grand prize winner of the 2012 ING Unsung Heroes award. On September 14, Mr. Preston was surprised with $25,000 to put toward his innovative teaching idea – to give underrepresented students a chance to take part in a design and engineering project and experience what it is like to fly in a flight simulator.
Students in a number of different Career and Technology Education pathways at the school, including those with special needs, will benefit from the program. Mr. Preston and student design teams plan to make the flight simulator fully accessible to students with motor-skill challenges and other disabilities. Congratulations, Mr. Preston!
