School Vision

As a diverse learning community our vision is to develop the whole child socially, emotionally, creatively, civically and academically to realize one’s talents and to have confidence in pursuing one’s goals in college and/or career.

School Mission

The mission of Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School #215 is to provide the whole child with cooperative, artistic, rigorous, culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate academic experiences. This mission will be accomplished through a shared decision-making process that involves all key stakeholders within our diverse learning community..

About Our School

Welcome to Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School #215, where creativity thrives, diversity shines, and every child is supported to reach their full potential. With approximately 420 students, we are a vibrant school community dedicated to fostering a love for learning through the Arts. As a model Arts Every Day school and a proud School-wide Title 1 school, we prioritize providing equitable access to quality education for all students.

At Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School #215, diversity is not just celebrated; it's embraced. Our inclusive environment reflects the rich tapestry of our community, ensuring every student feels valued and respected. We believe in supporting the whole child, nurturing their academic, emotional, and social well-being to help them succeed not just in the classroom, but in life.

Committed to sustainability, we are a green school dedicated to environmental stewardship. Through various initiatives, we empower our students to become environmentally conscious citizens who actively contribute to preserving our planet for future generations.

Beyond the traditional curriculum, our school offers a wide array of afterschool clubs and sports, providing opportunities for students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships outside the classroom. We are proud of partnership with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, which helps us to cultivate young musicians, through our afterschool program, "BSO OrchKids.”

At Highlandtown # 215, we believe that education is not just about educating minds with knowledge, but also about nurturing hearts and souls. Join us in shaping the next generation of creative thinkers, compassionate leaders, and responsible global citizens.

Principal, Nancy Fagan

I am a 39 year veteran of Baltimore City Public Schools.  I was born in Baltimore and I attended school in Baltimore City Public Schools.  I have been a teacher, an instructional support teacher and an assistant principal in BCPSS.  I received my undergraduate degree at Marquette University in Communications, my graduate degree at the College of Notre Dame in Leadership and a host of college credits at various local universities leading me to obtained a Master's  Degree plus 30.

This is my 19th year at Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School #215.  Under my leadership we have taking this school from elementary to an elementary/middle school, dramatically change the climate of the school, beautified our school inside and out, increase attendance through the years, and provided families with many services that go beyond the academics.  And what I am  most proud of is how we have moved our school out of school improvement by increasing, notable, the performance of our students in both reading and math.  At various years we have outperformance our neighborhood schools, including charter schools.  It is because of the team work of the many people who support Highlandtown #215 we have met with success.  We will continue to be a school of high standards as long as I am the leader.

The picture of me is from many moons ago and it was taken a one of the most beautiful places on earth that only someone much greater than us all could have created The Grand Canyon.
