Juneteenth

Baltimore City Public Schools honors the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates the date, June 19, 1865, that the final enslaved people in Texas were notified by Union Soldiers that slavery had ended. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and months after the end of the Civil War.

Today is not only a day of celebration but a day of reflection. City Schools shares the resources below to help you learn more about Juneteenth and ways to honor the day.
