• Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Shifts: Maryland State Common Core Standards!
This year, our school will continue to implement the Common Core Standards in literacy and mathematics.

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy (retrieved from http://www.corestandards.org/)

The Maryland State Department of Education has written several parent and community friendly publications that explain the Common Core shifts and ways that we can help our children become prepared for the new PARCC assessments that will replace the Maryland School Assessment (MSA).  PARCC stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. PARCC is a consortium of states that are working together to develop common assessments for grades K-12 in math and English that aligned to college and career readiness standards (retrieved from http://commoncoreapplied.weebly.com/paarc-assessments.html).
