Family and community engagement is an important component for student success. MAPAL believes that engaged parents and community partners are critical parts of a strong school community. As part of Baltimore’s Family and Community Engagement Policy every Baltimore City School is required to develop a Family Student School Council. The council’s purpose is to effectively engage parents in school programs as decision makers with the overall goal of improving school climate. The Student Family Council focus is to promote parent volunteerism, foster community partnerships and increase educational opportunities for students.
The School Family Council plans events for families once a month. Past programs included a Parent Family Pizza Night where students were honored for academic success, community partners presented their services, school faculty discussed upcoming events, and three Thanksgiving holiday baskets were raffled off to families. Please check back for details on upcoming Parent Family nights.
