Senior educators (i.e. professionally certified employees who are 55 years old or older; or who have been employed for at least 25 years in public school service or approved nonpublic school service), must apply for renewal. Your certificate will not be automatically renewed by the District.

*Please read the below information carefully.
- If you are age 55 or older, or have been employed with Baltimore City Public Schools for at least 25 years, you do not have to submit documentation in your renewal. In the notes section of your ERP request you will type in the box “I’m applying for the senior teacher waiver renewal requirements met no documents required.”
- If you are not age 55 or older, but have 25 years of experience in another Maryland LEA or outside the state of Maryland, you must upload verification of experience from the other Maryland LEA/state/country to verify your years of experience. In the notes section of your ERP request you will type in the box “you are applying for the senior teacher waiver and I have uploaded my additional experience to my TEACH portal.”
*School Counselors (Lauryn’s Law) Upon renewal of a certificate issued after January 1, 2017 in the area of school counseling, an individual must present lauryn’s law credit*, which shall include: • One hour of coursework; or • One CPD; or • An equivalent number of CEUs that addresses the following: (a) The need for intervention or referral in response to indicators of mental illness and behavioral distress, including, but not limited to depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, and substance abuse; and (b) The identification of professional resources and best practices for distributing resources to parents or guardians to help students in crisis.
