Because of COVID-19, the governor has issued an order that certificate expiration dates will be effectively extended until after the threat of coronavirus has been minimized, including suspension of all certificates' expiration until at least 30 days after he ends a current state of emergency. This extension applies to all certificate types: advanced, standard, resident, and conditional.
If you have hard copies of documents that you need to submit for your certification renewal (such as official transcripts) or documents that you are unable to access and upload at this time (such as IDPs) you may wait until district buildings reopen. Employees should not be concerned with certificate renewals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A few notes:
Teachers and instructional specialists, supervisors, and administrators must have a valid Maryland certificate. Certificates can be downloaded from the state's website. Below are resources to help you with your certificates.
