Registering for Kindergarten

  • Explore New Possibilities: Registration Booklet Cover Image

High-quality early education provides a strong foundation for later success in school. In kindergarten, children begin to discover and understand new information in the world around them, building skills they will use throughout their lives. And, in the group setting of the early learning classroom, they develop social and emotional skills.
All children who turn five by September 1 are required by law to attend school. Learn more about kindergarten eligibility, including information about early admission and delaying kindergarten.
If your child will be five years old by September 1, 2018, it's time to register for kindergarten! Registration opens on April 16, 2018.

(Note: If you're looking to register for the current school year, please contact Enrollment, Choice, and Transfers at 410-396-8600.)

    How to register

To register at your neighborhood school, simply follow these steps:
    1. Find your school by using the Neighborhood School Locator and find out about charter schools that might be right for your child and family.

    2. Fill out the application.

    3. Gather all the paperwork you need to begin the registration process, including a birth certificate or other government-issued document showing your child’s birth date and two proofs of primary residence dated within 30 days.

To complete registration, you will also need to show your child’s immunization record, lead test certificate, most recent physical exam, and if eligible, proof of guardianship and Individualized Education Program (IEP).

    4. On or after April 16, take the registration form and paperwork with you to your neighborhood school.
If you’re interested in applying for a charter school, contact that school directly to ask about their registration process.
