Recruiting Excellent Teachers
Great teachers come from all different backgrounds. These backgrounds bring diversity, experience and knowledge that benefit our students.
Many of our teachers graduated from traditional colleges or schools of education. Others come from innovative programs like the Baltimore City Teaching Residency, Teach for America and Urban Teacher Center which recruit professionals and college graduates from different disciplines, training them to teach for City Schools and providing a pathway to certification.
City Schools also works hard to ensure that our teachers are “highly qualified,” as defined and required under the No Child Left Behind Act. And we work in partnership with the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU), implementing a contract that offers clear steps up a professional ladder and rewards effective teachers with both career and salary advancement.
