Every week, we highlight some of the remarkable achievements, innovations, and success stories. Let's celebrate the great work of our schools, staff, and students!
Here are a few awesome things that happened this week:
- Our Middle Alternative Program has created a school community food pantry to help support students and their families in need.
- Great Kids Farm was featured in Education Week. Check out the fantastic things they had to say about our program on the Education Week site.
- Eighth-grade students at Thomas Johnson designed boats to race as part of a STEM lesson. See their final projects on Twitter.
- Moravia Park welcomed grandparents to celebrate Grandparents Day. They joined the school for lunch, listened to a read aloud of the book Grandma’s Tiny House, and did an Art with a Heart activity with their grandchildren. See photos from this special day on Twitter.
- Forest Park's first-year automotive students have already learned how to rotate tires and make oil changes! Check out their class on Instagram.
- City Schools’ CEO Dr. Santelises was on a panel during the Ed-Fi Summit to discuss school finances and budgets. Click here to see a photo of the panel on LinkedIn.
- Poly student Salloni Gill was invited to the prestigious 2023 PURE Insurance Championship golf tournament (taking place September 22-24). Click here to congratulate her on Instagram!
- City Council President Nick Mosby had our 2023 Teacher of the Year, Jared Perry, on his podcast to discuss music and being named Teacher of the Year. You can listen to the podcast on Facebook.
- City College students and their families hosted students from Diocesan College Cardenal Cisneros in Guadalajara, Spain. In January, City students will visit their new friends in Spain as a part of the cultural exchange. Click here to see a photo of the entire group on City College’s Facebook.
- From presentations for executives to real-world experience in the field, 11 students from MERVO had a summer for the books (and their futures!) as interns with BGE. Read about it in our Progress Report.
- Western alumnus Alma Roberts is a featured artist at the Resilience Unveiled exhibit opening September 17 at the Douglass-Myers Museum hosted by The Black Art Today Foundation. Visit Bmore Art’s post for more information about the exhibit.
- Many of our schools have school gardens. Montessori students helped pick the last tomatoes, cucumbers, figs, and pears from their school garden! Produce was distributed to the student kitchen and staff members. Click here to see photos on Facebook – including some of the dishes staff made with the harvest.
