On Friday, September 29, 2023, between 6 and 8 p.m., City Schools will be updating our technology infrastructure. This maintenance may cause intermittent service disruptions to all City Schools' technology services. This includes any systems that require internet access and cloud-based services. Please plan accordingly.

Awards and Competitions

Holabird hosted this year's DWP's Eco-Warriors of the Future Schools Competition award ceremony! See a full list of winners and WBAL's coverage of the event here.  
 
The Baltimore City Association of School Psychologists voted Rebecca Lee, coordinator of psychological services for Baltimore City Public Schools, as the School Psychologist of the Year for 2022-2023.   
 
Two City Schools music educators are quarterfinalists for the Music Educator Grammy Award! Danni Schmitt (band director at Roland Park) and Shakia Paylor (music teacher at City Neighbors) were selected from over 2,000 nominees. Click here to see an official announcement from Grammy Awards.  
 
Congrats to our 2019 Teacher of the Year, Kyair Butts, for winning the Joseph Moore Award from Lesley University.  
 
City Schools is a finalist for the Top 100 Human Resources Team! Think we deserve to be a finalist? Vote here!

Student, Staff & School News 

We're so proud of Roland Park student Tatum who raised $3,600 for a local homeless shelter to celebrate her sixth birthday! Read about this generous effort in The Baltimore Banner.  

 

The district's second annual Let's Get Hyped event was a huge success! This family learning event focused on college and career readiness for students. Families received resources and information and participated in workshops to help them navigate their educational journey from middle through high school, graduation, and beyond. More than 100 City College juniors in IB's Environmental I course investigated the health of the stream and surrounding ecosystem at Herring Run Park. Learn more about this hands-on experience on the City College Facebook page.  

 

Katherine Johnson's Star Models held their first fashion show with the theme "Toy Story."  

 

Mary Ann Winterling held its first student art show, where every student had a piece of artwork on display. See some photos on Mary Ann Winterling's Instagram!  

 

ConneXions staff, students, and the community gathered for Field Day and, for the first year, to celebrate Jerry Mack Day! Jerry, one of the twelfth-grade students at ConneXions, was honored because of his inspiring and positive spirit that embodies the purpose of ConneXions. Patterson celebrated the end of the year with their multilingual families. Thanks to a partnership with Scholastic Books, families went home with a young adult book featuring stories from immigrants, refugees, and multicultural characters. See more photos on Patterson's Twitter.

The Design School Architecture class of 2024, in collaboration with the MICA Center for Social Design and Morgan's School of Architecture and Planning, spent one day every week during the school year on their design and build project. It culminated in the creation and installation of four benches outside the school.
