Welcome to George W.F. McMechen High School,

"Whatever It Takes!!"

Monday, August 26, 2013 marks the beginning of a new and exciting school year.  The administration, instructional and support staff are looking forward to engaging students in a challenging and stimulating educational program.

Again this year, the systemic focus is on Rigor, Engagement and Intervention to create a culture of high achievement for all students.  The Common Core State Standards will serve as the framework for instruction.  Additionally, we will incorporate instruction in “Life Skills” and students will be provided services according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP).  We will also continue using the Styer-Fitzgerald curriculum and incorporate the TEACCH Model.

Our school’s motto this year is “Whatever It Takes”.   The staff is charged with rising to the occasion to enhance student achievement.  We will do this by using various technological devices during instruction, ensuring the instruction is rigorous and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of your child.  In order to actualize our motto with each and every student, parent participation is key to our success.  We need you and strongly encourage you to make a personal commitment to increase your involvement during the 2013-2014 school year.  We have already planned our Back-to-School Night for Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Please mark your calendar and plan to participate.  We also need every parent to join McMechen’s PTA.

Our school hours will remain as 9:00 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.   We want all students present each day at school.  In the event we experience transportation problems at the beginning of the year, please be proactive.  If possible, make an alternate plan of getting your child to and from school while transportation problems are being resolved.  The McMechen Staff is looking forward to working with both you and your student to provide quality educational experiences.
