Introducing our 2017-2018 Exchange Teachers & Interns

We would like to introduce this year’s guest teachers and interns to our school community. We are very happy to be able to host a total of five exchange teachers and interns this school year. They provide invaluable cultural and linguistic support to our immersion programs at all grade levels. You can learn a little bit more about them below. Please be sure to say hello when you see them at school!

Spanish Immersion
From Barcelona, Spain we have our intern Julen Alvarez Juan, who just earned his Primary Education Teacher Degree in June 2017. Julen has experience with students ages 6-12 and has a strong background in science, math and music. Here are a few words from Julen:
“Hello everyone! I’m Julen and I come from Barcelona, Spain. I finished my studies and I am a Primary Education Teacher after 4 years at the University Ramon Llull in Barcelona. I will be working in the Spanish Immersion Program with all different classes this upcoming school year. I will try to show the students the Spanish language and culture as best I can. I’m very glad to be a part of this team and a part of this exciting Immersion Program. I hope I can help the students to make progress in Spanish!”

Chinese Immersion
From China, we have two volunteer teachers through the Hanban/Confucius Institute, Jingmei (“Jenny”) Yang, and Wenting Zhu.

Jenny is returning to us for a second year and comes from Guangxi Province. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and is certified to teach Chinese by the government of China. Previously, she worked as a Volunteer Chinese Teacher in Thailand for three years.
From Jenny: “I am so glad to work at BIA. It is my pleasure to be here. BIA is a big family, my colleagues are very enthusiastic and helpful, and the students are very lovely. I enjoy teaching Chinese language and culture to students. I hope I can help my students to make progress in Chinese. My wish for the school year is to have a great time working, studying and sharing our cultures.”

Wenting Zhu comes from Chengdu in the Sichuan Province of China. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education. She has worked as an English teacher in the primary school associated with Southwest Jiaotong University for twenty years. She is also certified to teach Chinese by the government of China.

From Wenting: “I’m very happy to be here as a volunteer Chinese teacher in the BIA family. I think Chinese is different for most American students, but in a good way. In order to make learning fun, I will give students a lot of speaking practice using a variety of communicative activities. I hope my students will like me and feel comfortable around me. I’m sure it’s going to be a fun and enriching year, both for myself and the students!”

French Immersion
Our intern for French Immersion is Tony Briget. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and American Literature & Civilization and is currently working on his Master’s Degree. Tony plans to become an English teacher in France. Below is an introduction from Tony himself:

"Hi! My name is Tony and I was born and raised near Paris. I just completed my first year of Master in Education and Teaching, and have passed an exam to become an English teacher for the French National Education system.

I love playing the guitar and singing, and it will be my pleasure to share my knowledge of French pop music with the students. I will also encourage them to remain as open-minded and curious as possible throughout the year.

I am sure it is going to be a wonderful experience!"
