Back to School Communications Materials
Click here for a list of expected delivery dates for all Back to School items. Checklists and envelopes will arrive in schools starting Aug. 26. To prepare completed packets, it is recommended that schools stuff envelopes as items arrive. Please note that all Back to School items must be backpacked home together in the first week of school.

School Readiness Checklist
To assist school leaders in tracking the numerous components of preparing for a new year, we have developed a school readiness checklist. The checklist identifies high-level, critical tasks that will need to be addressed or completed in the coming weeks. Please work with your school support networks as needed to ensure each item can be checked off by the deadlines indicated in the matrix. Click here for a letter from Chief of Staff Tisha Edwards about school readiness and here for the school-readiness checklist for principals

Great Kids, Great Schools Banners
In preparation for the start of the school year, please make sure your "Great Kids, Great Schools" banner is in good shape and hanging near your school entrance by the start of school (Aug. 30). If you need to buy a new banner, which costs $70, go to K12Buy and create a new supplies requisition. Search for vendor TrayPML and browse its catalog to find banners. Create your requisition. If you have any questions, contact Zy Richardson in the Office of Communications at (410) 545-7296.

Web Site Submissions Form
Please click here to access and complete a web site submission form right away. To make this whole process as easy as possible on you, the list is coming to you in the form of an electronic survey. This allows you to upload information and attach documents all in one place. Many of the content items represent information you already have at your fingertips, and several are optional. Completing the form will take some time now, on the front end, but it will help us get your sites ready for a robust launch with the start of the new, 2010-11 school year.

Thank you very much for your collaboration on this important project. If you have any questions at all, please contact Gregg Ford in the communications office at gford@bcps.k12.md.us or at (410) 545-7296/7.

Back to School Global Connect Calls to Families
To encourage the strongest possible start to the school year, City Schools is sending out a series of communications to families, reminding them about the importance of starting school on Monday, Aug. 30, on time and ready to learn. As part of this effort, we are sending a series of Global Connect calls between now and Aug. 30, starting Thursday, Aug. 12, with a call to all City Schools families from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. The following week, on Thursday, Aug. 19, a call will go out to all families from Dr. Alonso. We suggest that in the final week before school starts, the week of Aug. 23, a call go out from you, our school principals, to your families. A suggested script is provided here for your convenience, should you choose to send this call. And should you need any assistance with recording the call, please contact Chip Dizard in the communication office at (410) 545-7296.

Thank you for your help and support in getting these important back-to-school materials to our families. If you have any questions about them, or about the suggested global connect call, please contact the communications office at (410) 545-7296. We are here to provide you with communications support wherever we can.
