Partners For SuccessResource Centers for Families and Schools are partnerships between the local school system and the Maryland State Department of Education. The purpose of these centers is to provide the skills and knowledge that will enable families of children and youth with disabilities, ages 3 to 21, and professionals to function as equal partners in the educational decision making process and to assist families in accessing services for their children. PARTNERS FOR SUCCESS: Resource Center for Families and Schools helps families and educators in Baltimore City by: • providing support, information, and resources on disabilities and community services• assisting families to resolve concerns and make informed decisions regarding their child’s education • increasing parent involvement and collaborative partnerships between families and professionalsPARTNERS FOR SUCCESS: Resource Center for Families and Schools promotes partnerships and parent involvement in special education by offering the following: INFORMATION TRAINING Individualized Education Program (IEP)—a course which will provide basic information needed to participate in the development of IEPs for children with disabilities Next Steps: The Transition Series—a workshop which will assist in the process of transitioning from school into adult life Building Advocacy Skills—a course that will help participants understand how to use advocacy skills and problem solve with agencies that provide services to students with disabilities Partnership Series—a series of workshops to assist families and professionals work together effectively Other Workshops—seminars and in-services especially designed to meet the needs of families and educators For more information about the PARTNERS FOR SUCCESS: Resource Center for Families and Schools in Baltimore City, contact: Partners for Success: Phone 410•396•8995 or 8983 |
