• In June 2011, the School Board approved its new grading policy. The intention of the Baltimore City Public Schools’ grading regulation is to introduce fair and uniform grading and reporting practices throughout the district. The grading regulation is being implemented to ensure systemic consistency for assessing student achievement using procedures that are based on clearly defined and consistently-used formats for grading which are explained to students and parents.

    In Baltimore City Public Schools, grades reflect what a student knows and can do in relation to grade-level or course expectations. Teachers will evaluate students using a variety of assessment tools in order to provide students with numerous and varied opportunities to demonstrate knowledge and skills. Teachers will provide students and parents with information about achievement by utilizing the online grading tool and updating grades on this system on a regular basis. It is recommended that teachers provide parents the option for a conference following each report card.
