• Board of Directors
     
    Establishing and maintaining a strong Board is critical to the success of Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School. Our Board will make certain that Baltimore Montessori stays focused on our mission and has the human and financial resources necessary to implement the charter and maintain the safety and security of the children entrusted to our care. We understand that the Board is the legally responsible guardian of the school for fiduciary matters, school operations, and academic performance. Therefore, our Board will regularly review whether the charter school is achieving success based upon its goals. This process includes evaluating the School Director and establishing and reviewing progress against agreed school benchmarks. Our Board members will act as “trustees” on behalf of the city to ensure that Baltimore Montessori is functioning in a safe and prudent manner. The Board’s job is to routinely assess whether current practices are ethical and effective, not to engage in the day-to-day operations of the school. Ongoing board work is done through Executive Committees. Programmatic work is done through school-based committees such as Events/Fundraising and Food/Greening. Communication liaisons will be available to Executive and School-Based Committees. Baltimore Montessori’s Board of Directors will stay informed about the needs of the students and families and changing regulation requirements, in order to strategically plan for the future of our school.

    Board Meetings
     
    The Board of Directors meets quarterly, on the 4th Monday of the month at 5:30pm in the BMPCS Board Room, to develop policies and to monitor strategies for the school to follow. All board meetings are open to the public. There will be a minimum of two parents as voting members of the Board. At least one guide and the Director will participate as non-voting members. Board members may be contacted via a note in the Board President’s mailbox or phone call/ e-mail as noted in the staff contact list.

    Director’s Role
     
    The Director does not report to individuals but rather to the Board as a whole. The Director may communicate through the President or Executive Director. The President supervises the Board, not the School Director. The Board and Executive Director will support the Director who supports the guides and students. The Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and accountability of Baltimore Montessori. A model of distributed leadership will be used so staff feels supported and empowered as they are involved in decisions that affect the school. Parents will have input into decisions through participation in committees and Mission Rountables. The Director’s role is to be a visionary and inspiring leader who ensures that staff, students and parents are safe and supported in order to fulfill our mission.
     
     

    Montessori Board Meetings  

    Board Meetings are quarterly on the 4th Monday of the month, except when coincides with Winter and/or Spring Break. All meetings are open to the public and will be held in the school community room. Parents are welcome to attend. Time will be provided at the beginning of meeting so comments may be shared with the board.
