Govans Elementary is a pre-k through 5th grade school located in the heart of the Govans Community. We are focused on the most important work: Encouraging high performance from our students while creating a nurturing and safe learning environment that keeps them accountable and helps them see their possibilities. Through a charter conversion and a building renovation/rebuild, Govans Elementary will become the best elementary school in Baltimore City and a vital part of the York Road Corridor.
To increase the academic achievement of all students in partnership with the entire community by ensuring that all students receive a quality education and the tools to become productive, responsible citizens. Our vision statement is to create an environment that is safe, nurturing, and committed to students reaching their fullest potential.
Over 85% of the teachers at Govans Elementary have eight or more years of longevity at Govans. One hundred percent are highly qualified as defined under federal and state law.
The qualifications of our teachers ensure that instructional programs taught in each class include the following:
  • Lessons developed using assessment data
  • Manipulative, hands-on cooperative learning methods
  • Components of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
  • Problem solving and high order questioning
