SCHOOL WIDE ACTIVITIESGeorge W. F. McMechen High School offers a variety of activities to address the individuality of its student population. Here are a few examples:
Teachers and administrators select these students. These are students who are responsible individuals who can follow directions very well. Student facilitators help teachers during all assemblies and special events.
All students are encouraged to participate in the Special Olympics. Practices are held during the physical education classes. Medals are awarded to students for their participation.
CAREER READINESS and JOB SHADOWING
Various students who appear capable and responsible are selected to participate in the career readiness/job shadowing program. The job sites include the George W. F. McMechen Store, Sweet Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Old Navy and Shoppers Food.
BOY SCOUTS/GIRLS COUTS
Students may select to become members of the Boy Scouts or the Girl Scouts. The members take part in monthly meetings and perform various activities throughout the school year.
Students select a club of their choice. Clubs meet every first and third Wednesday. Some of the club choices are: Golf, Swim, Dance, Home Crafts, Travel, Art, and Charm.
On the last Monday in each month, the entire school family participates in a one-mile walk either inside or outside of the school building.
