Academic Standards

Ft. Worthington scholars are expected to excel in their learning and achievement.  We are committed to providing students with the support and assistance needed to successfully meet the standards identified in the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards (MCCRS). Students will receive instruction that reflects the appropriate academic rigor for their respective grade level and must demonstrate mastery of basic and higher level skills.

Our school asserts that students earn grades based upon their individual performance. Achievement levels are determined by reviewing several indicators of student progress including teacher made assessments, local and state tests, reading inventories, projects, writing samples, oral and written presentations, etc. Grades are not given, rather earned as a result of careful review of multiple documents and student work products that have been collected over a period of time. Teachers are responsible for implementing accurate and effective grading practices to document how students are performing in alignment with state and district level achievement standards.

Grading Policy
  • Each teacher establishes the guidelines for determining a student’s grade for that subject based upon a number of criteria.
  • Teachers must share and explain to students and parents the grading policy for each subject/grade level.
  • The scholar is responsible and accountable for meeting the criteria in the grading policy in order to earn a satisfactory or better grade
  • Poor attendance, behavior problems, and negative attitudes impacts student performance and consequently grades earned
