Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School #84 (TJ) is located in South Baltimore near the end of Light Street, I-95 and Port Covington. Our standards are to make sure that every child learns what is needed to be successful. Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School services students from a variety of neighborhoods in South Baltimore and Federal Hill. Students residing outside the residential zone are considered for enrollment on an individual basis.
Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School offers a rigorous and enriching curriculum to students in Pre-Kindergarten through eight. This instruction resulted in MSA reading and math test scores which ranked amongst the highest in Baltimore city.
Within the regular academic program, TJ implements the inclusion model to provide services to students with special needs. Our special needs students have met the same success as our general population students in all tested areas.
During the summer of 2008, Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School underwent major renovations to upgrade the learning environment. Renovations also included the addition of a state of the art middle school science lab and two state of the art computer labs; TJ is now able to offer a technology program to students school-wide. In addition to technology, students attend art, physical education, library, Spanish, and instrumental music classes weekly. We also provide two days of elective instruction for students in grades 5 – 8. The following electives are offered: advanced technology, band, choice-based art, dance, drama, National Academic League, robotics, Spanish, and strings.
