• LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

The Life Skills Program is a specialized City Wide special education program designed to serve students with significant intellectual disabilities who attend Baltimore City Public Schools. The curriculum focuses on functional academics geared toward preparing students for college and career readiness enabling them to become productive 21st century members of society.

Life skills are generally those skills that students will need in everyday life (e.g., money management, self-care, and functional reading). These skills are essential for the students in the Life Skills Program because they enable the transition from school to life in the real world.

Students in the Life Skills Program participate in the Multi-State alternate Assessment (MSAA). This testing program is designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities. It assesses a student’s academic attainment in the areas of reading and mathematics.
