This year the Patterson School Garden is being worked on by Karen Scott, ESOL Teacher; Kelly Hope, Science teacher; Mikal McCoy, President of the Student Government Association; and Susan Steigner, School Social Worker. We are holding meetings on Wednesdays after school in Room 113. Beginning Wed., Sept. 21, 2016, Mikal will work in the garden from 3:45 - 5 p.m. with a staff member and interested students. Appropriate gardening shoes and clothes should be worn. After school announcements will be made daily from Sept. 12 - 16 that the club is looking for 10 students who will dedicate time to work in the garden for this school year. Student service learning hours will be earned for participation in the garden club. We plan to weed and clean the garden, prepare the soil for planting, plant, water, and maintain the garden. We hope to develop a Good Eats club for students in which we prepare meals from vegetables grown in the garden. The Garden Club will also staff a table at the Patterson Back To School Night/ 6th Community Fair on Thursday, Sept. 22, in the school cafeteria. Mikal is writing an article about the school garden for the Patterson Press and has plans to develop the garden into a permanent club at Patterson High School.
