The Baltimore City Public School System welcomes you to School Year 2007 – 2008.
The Twilight and Credit Recovery Program is available to every school that has students who are interested in recovering course failures.Schools are encouraged to use the program as an intervention that is monitored by the School Improvement Team and or the Student Support Team to ensure that students are attending and progressing towards course completion.Ultimately the impact of this type of monitoring will increase the promotion rate and the graduation rate.
What Parents Need to Know
How are students identified for Twilight and Credit Recovery?
School counselors identify the students and the course failures that the students need to recover.The student and course listing is given to the teacher who will operate the Twilight and Credit Recovery Program. This teacher notifies the students and the students are given a letter to inform the parent about the availability of the program.Parents sign permission that they agree to having their child work after school with a teacher.
Is there a registration fee?
The registration fee is $50 for the school year.The fee covers all of the courses that a student may need for the school year. Students pay the registration fee with a money order payable to the Baltimore City Public School System.
What is the curriculum program?
NOVEL is an internet web assisted program that assesses each student and identifies a course of student for each student who has failed a course.Every high school course that a child needs for graduation is provided in this program excluding physical education, foreign language and technology education.Each course has two semesters of coursework excluding health which has just one semester of coursework.The courses contain a midterm and a final.Students complete the assignments and lessons by using the computer.The assignments and reading selections can also be printed for the students to work on at home.
How many days should my child work after school with a teacher?
Students should work after school with a teacher at least three days a week for 90 minutes.
Students are expected to complete at least four lessons a week from school and three lessons a week from home.The midterms and finals are completed in school.
How will I know what grade my child receives for courses taken in the Twilight and Credit Recovery?
Your child should receive a progress report and a report card for the courses taken in the program.Please contact your child’s school if this does not happen.
How are the grades recorded for my child?
The counselor receives the grades from the teacher and the grades are placed on the student’s transcript.
Will I be able to work with my child at home with the coursework?
Yes, the NOVEL Program is available for students to work from home on weekends and during the holidays.It is suggested that students complete at least three assignments from home each week in order to complete a course within a twelve week time frame.
