English as a Second Language Education
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program provides English language instruction for non- or limited English proficient students. The primary goal of the program is to develop students' English language proficiency so that they may achieve overall academic success. Students enrolled in the program receive ESL instruction while also participating in the mainstream academic program.
Participation in the ESL program is determined by the results of an English language proficiency test, given to students for whom English is a second language. If ESL instruction is not provided in a student's zoned school, the student's parents or guardians may request a transfer to the nearest ESL Center. The following schools have been designated ESL Centers for the 2001-2002 school year.
