Maryland Meals for Achievement (MMFA)
Maryland Meals for Achievement is a research- based Program that provides classroom breakfast to all students without the eligibility determination hassles. This long-term pilot program began in 1998 after Harvard University researchers determined that serving breakfast in the classroom to all students without charge has a positive impact on student achievement. The Baltimore City Public Schools participated in the initial Harvard studies and we are proud to know that the Program is a big help in students starting their educational day off right. Researchers also credit the Program with improvements in the learning environment, student attentiveness and behavior, and tardiness and suspensions.
The Program is totally funded by the Maryland State Department of Education. Schools are eligible to participate if they have at least 40 percent of their enrollment eligible for free or reduced price meals as of October 31st of each year.
