The BCPSS Local Wellness Policy

The BCPSS Nutrition Standards

Working Together for a Healthy School Environment -

The Nutrition Services Department has a mandated section of the adopted Local Wellness Policy. The standards were developed with the help of a diverse stakeholder group. Implementation strategies will be evaluated each year by School Improvement Teams (SIT) and the Director of the Nutrition Services Department will report the SIT results to the School Board by each June 30.

We stand committed to our students’ health and well-being and not only offer healthy entrees, but also offer nutritious choices through our line of healthy snacks and a la carte items. In addition and as a result of the Local Wellness Policy, you can expect to see the following Nutrition Standards:
.

  • Our school meals and snacks meet and exceed federal and state nutrition standards
    • Snacks are served or sold in single serving portions and exceed federal and state regulation by meeting ≤ 7 grams of total fat, ≤ 2 grams of saturated fat, and ≤ 15 grams of sugar
    • The serving of foods with minimized trans and saturated fats, sodium and sugar
    • The serving of whole grain products, low and fat-free milk, and fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Limits on all foods sold in vending machines and school stores
  • The reinforcement of healthy eating habits when considering celebrations, rewards, or other school sanctioned events or fundraisers

Working Together for a Healthy School Environment -

The school system is a critical facility in which many departments and other school stakeholders work together to maintain the well-being of our students through a coordinated school health model and the adoption of the BCPSS Local Wellness Policy.
